Most surgery-abroad horror stories start in this window: incomplete labs, missed medication holds, surprise out-of-pocket costs. JetPatient runs a closed checklist with your PCP, the clinic, and your plan before your trip is even booked.

📄

Clinical work-up

Weeks −6 to −2
  • Pre-op labs run locally (Quest / LabCorp) — results posted to clinic FHIR bridge
  • Cardiac & anesthesia clearance per procedure-specific protocol
  • Medication reconciliation — blood thinners, GLP-1s, SSRIs, hormonal contraception
  • Imaging transfer (CT / MRI / X-ray) via DICOM to partner clinic PACS
  • Allergies & comorbidities reviewed by surgeon in writing
💼

Financial & benefits

Weeks −6 to −3
  • Eligibility verified with your employer plan or self-pay bundle locked
  • All-in price quoted in writing: surgeon, facility, anesthesia, pharmacy, hotel, transfer
  • Revision / complication policy disclosed before deposit
  • Travel companion coverage and optional complication insurance offered
  • Receipts formatted for FSA / HSA / IRS medical-expense substantiation

Travel & logistics

Weeks −3 to −1
  • Flight window chosen with surgeon based on DVT risk + fitness-to-fly window
  • Hotel & post-op stay booked in hospital-adjacent recovery-friendly rooms
  • Passport, visa, vaccinations verified for destination country
  • Ground transfers pre-arranged for airport ↔ hotel ↔ hospital
  • Emergency contacts saved in phone + on wrist tag + shared with embassy
Stage 04 · Post-Op Engine

Structured check-ins on Days 1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, 90.

The first 90 days are where most international-surgery programs quietly disappear. Ours doesn’t. Every patient gets a structured, mobile check-in that flows into a single clinical thread your Navigator, surgeon, and (with consent) PCP can all see.

  • Symptom tracking — pain, fever, nausea, wound appearance, swelling, mobility
  • Photo uploads for incisions, scored against Fitzpatrick-calibrated references (not a diagnosis)
  • PROMs surveys — KOOS / HOOS (ortho), BMI & nutrition (bariatric), FACE-Q (plastic)
  • Medication adherence check-ins for pain meds, antibiotics, anticoagulation, GLP-1s
  • Auto-escalation rules — fever > 101.3, sudden pain spike, discharge change, DVT signs → Nav call within 1 hr
  • Built into a regulated device software pathway — patient-facing AI summarizes intake and routes; clinical decisions stay with licensed clinicians

Stage 05 · PCP Handback

The surgery ends abroad.
The care doesn’t end there.

Around Day 30, with patient consent, your US primary-care physician receives a complete, structured handback packet — not a PDF dump. Op report, anesthesia record, pathology, medications, imaging links, follow-up plan, and PROMs baseline, all mapped to standard US EHR fields.

Delivery options: SMART-on-FHIR push into Epic / Cerner / Athena, Direct Trust secure email, or printable packet for paper charts. If your PCP wants a 20-minute peer-to-peer call with the operating surgeon, we set it up.

A clean handback is the single biggest thing medical travel has historically gotten wrong. We’ve made it a named SLA.

Why this isn't another medical tourism site

The honest comparison.

Each option has trade-offs. Here's where JetPatient wins — and where the U.S. status quo still has its uses.

U.S. status quo is the right choice for emergent surgery, complex multi-system cases, and patients who can't travel. Everywhere else, the math is clear.

The safety net

If something feels off, we’re already on it.

The partner clinic OR team, your on-call surgeon, and your Navigator are paged together — the moment a symptom check or a 24/7 call enters the red. Readmission, if needed, is at the original clinic with zero additional facility fees for the first 30 days.

Service-level targets are operational goals, not a guarantee of any specific clinical outcome. Every JetPatient trip carries this safety net by default — nothing to opt into, nothing extra to pay.

Common questions

What patients & PCPs ask most.

What happens if I have a serious complication after I’m home?
You call the 24/7 line or trigger the symptom check-in. A Navigator and the on-call surgeon respond within the fast-lane SLAs. If the situation requires emergency care locally, go to your nearest US ED — the platform coordinates records and insurance in parallel. If it requires surgical revision, we rebook travel and the partner clinic re-admits you with no additional facility fee for the first 30 days. Complication insurance can extend that window further.
Will my US primary-care doctor be in the loop?
Only with your written consent. If you consent, your PCP is added to the dashboard read-only and receives the structured handback packet around Day 30 (or earlier on request). If you don’t consent, your PCP is never contacted by us — but we’ll still give you a clean PDF + FHIR export you can bring to any clinician yourself.
Who is actually making clinical decisions?
Licensed clinicians: the operating surgeon at the partner clinic, on-call surgical staff, and your US PCP (if consented). JetPatient Navigators are trained, non-clinical support specialists — they are not clinicians. The patient-facing AI (Navigator) helps you prepare questions, understand your plan, and structure your check-ins — it does not diagnose, prescribe, or replace a clinical conversation.
Is the partner clinic actually accredited?
Every clinic in the JetPatient network holds either JCI accreditation or the credential we have determined to be its equivalent for that country and specialty — assessed against a published framework, and shown to you with what it verifies and where to confirm it. Accreditations, case volumes, complication rates, and NPS are published per-clinic in the quarterly Quality Report. Clinics we’ve paused are listed alongside active ones — no quiet suspensions.
What does the all-in price cover?
Surgeon fee, facility fee, anesthesia, standard post-op medications, lab work, imaging performed on site, hotel for the recommended post-op stay, airport transfers, and a named Navigator through Day 90. What’s not included is disclosed before deposit — typically optional upgrades (private room, companion rooms) and any US-side care you receive before you leave or after you return.
What if I’m on GLP-1s, blood thinners, or hormonal meds?
This is exactly the kind of thing medication reconciliation catches in Stage 01. Depending on the procedure and the medication, we work with the surgeon and (with consent) your PCP on a hold/taper/bridge plan — including day-of-surgery instructions. You never fly without a written reconciliation signed by a clinician.
